We are all one and equal
Turkish midfield defender John Mikel Obi was subjected to racist abuse on social media which also involved his family.
He said this amidst emotions running through his voice while speaking with Turskish reporters after helping his team defeat Fenerbahce 2-1, on Saturday on Turkish Superleague a result which moved Huseyin Cimsir’s side to third in the league table and a point above their rivals.
According to him ”After the game on Saturday, I started getting messages on my Instagram, even my girlfriend getting instant messages of racism and hatred, they were very scary messages towards me and my family and kids. There’s no place for this,” he told Turkish TV.
“I don’t think this should be happening and I think these people should be held responsible. They shouldn’t be allowed to come to games.
“I’m very disappointed with this – especially my girlfriend, my family, my kids. They are only four years old, why do you talk about my kids?
“I am very sad about this, it’s a very disturbing time for me.”
Mikel also appreciated his fans for their immense support.
While Mikel’s club has taken the racism issue to the authorities as they condemned the act of racism towards their player, this they express on twitter.
