AFRICAN’S SUCCESS LIES IN JOB CREATION, SAYS NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA

The newly appointed director-general of world trade organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has said the success of Africans lies in creating jobs for the youth.

Okonjo-Iweala, said this on Tuesday, during her opening remarks at the 2021 Lagos ‘Ehingbeti’ Economic Summit, adding that the issue of unemployment is a very big issue among African countries that leads to social vices detrimental to the continent at large.

According to her, more focus should be placed on creating modern decent jobs for young people, she further stated that what limits Africa in creating jobs for the younger generation is that the continent is a raw material-based economy.

She said the way forward in actualizing this is for Africa to become an industrialized continent and proposed that Africans should pursue manufacturing.
